Survivor: Island of the Idols Draft – Week 8

This week was historic for Survivor, and while much can be said about what happened this week. I’m still dissecting it myself. What we need to sort out are the draft results. So let’s update all the events of the game before we dive into the big stuff in the Review.

This season, I am joined by three former Survivor contestants to draft five players between us. They are: Carolyn Rivera, Survivor: Worlds Apart Co Runner-Up; Jessica Lewis, Survivor: Millennials vs Gen X Contestant; and Bret LaBelle, Survivor: Millennials vs Gen X & The Amazing Race 31 Contestant.

Here are the current standings after Week 8:

As the remaining 13 players all made the merge, everyone received 3 points for each player remaining in the game. That’s 12 for Carolyn, 9 for Jessica, 9 for me, and 9 for Bret. Aaron then went on to win the first Individual Immunity Challenge and 10 points were then delegated to Bret’s team.

Kellee managed to find two hidden immunity idols in the first hour, which gave me 10 points total to add to the tally. However, as she was subsequently voted out, they were taken straight back and out of my possession.

In the second hour, Jamal was sent to the Island of the Idols under some…odd…circumstances. He neither won nore lost the challenge, but since he lost his vote, I’m counting it as a loss so the 2 points for visiting Rob & Sandra were just as subtracted. This, of course, was still my team. So not much change really.

The Immunity Challenge was for both gals and guys this time, and after Aaron won another Immunity Challenge, Bret gained 10 more points to his total. Missy also added 10 points to Carolyn’s team for winning the ladies side of the Challenge.

Janet picked up an idol and played it at Tribal Council, so another 15 points were put onto Bret’s team. And eventually, Jamal was voted out from the tribe which saw me take ANOTHER 10 points off my team, and leave Dean as the sole representative for Team Matthew.

UM. WHAT? Over three weeks I went from having an intact team, to become decimated with Detective Dean as the lone wolf. Not only was I the first to lose three team members, but four team members too. Despite the Island of the Idols visit, the two idol finds, it all became practically pointless as I actually took 1 point off my tally last week (159). So that early lead was fun y’all. But unless Dean finds idols, plays them, and wins Challenges (which I think he’s capable of doing), I’m done.

With the extra 10-point boost from Missy’s Challenge win, Carolyn is now in a VERY close 2nd place. And she still has all four of her team members remaining. Considering her lead, the Worlds Apart queen might be headed for a big draft victory.

Jessica was lucky to escape pretty unscathed in the double episode. No subtractions took place for her, but there were no idols or Immunity wins that granted her any extra points either. She sits not far from Carolyn, but not too far ahead of Bret either. I’m sure she’s hoping for a big episode next week that’ll see her notch into the top spot.

Bret FINALLY made it into triple digits this week, and not just barely, he jumped from 89 to 133, that’s a massive 44 point pick-up! And I spoke to (Queen) Kellee last week, and she told me, and I quote, “Bret not doing so hot”. So it seems like Bret took on the unheard advice and pulled out the big points with Janet’s idol find and play and Aaron’s double Immunity wins. He’s now a firm contender for the drafting crown, and while he remains in last, he might pull off a comeback of his own.

The placements as they stand are:
1st - Matthew (158 points)
2nd - Carolyn (152 points)
3rd - Jessica (140 points)
4th - Bret (133 points)

The point system used for the draft is as follows.

This draft is updated weekly as the season progresses.
